Wool, cashmere and knitted ties

In the United Kingdom, wool and knitted ties are mostly worn in the countryside or they are worn by artists, writers, teachers or members of different colleges and regiments. This is because a knitted tie or a wool tie will always be considered less formal than a silk tie .

Usually these ties are made of:
– pure wool;
– cashmere;
– a combination of wool and cashmere, wool and silk or cashmere and silk.

They are worn with:
– bright colour plain shirts:

– checked shirts, the most famous being the Tattersall shirt:

– tweed suits:

Both the wool and knitted ties can be made from a plain fabric or some sort of patterned fabric:

 You can also find some wool ties with rural or hunting motifs:

For those of you who want to wear a knitted tie at the office on a casual Friday, I recommend a navy or a black one:

You can find good quality wool and cashmere ties at: Drake’s London, E. Marinella Napoli and Viola Milano.
